Determining the micronutritional state of a given population consisted of individual ELISA kits targeting five unique biomarkers. These included AGP, CRP, Ferritin, STfR and RBP-4. The process of testing individual biomarkers was very costly and required a great deal of time and sample to generate the required data needed to make informed decisions. This high resource burden associated with these methods limited many LMICs in their ability to determine the prevalence of nutritional deficiencies within their populations, plan targeted nutritional interventions, and track the effects of such efforts.
Quansys Biosciences worked with PATH to develop a customized multiplex kit. This newly developed assay added two additional markers (Tg, HRP2) to the previously tested five analytes (CRP, AGP, Ferritin, sTfR, RBP4), resulting in a 7-plex array. When coupled with the robust Q-View™ imaging system and user friendly Q-view Software, The newly created Human Micronutrient array established a new standardized platform that can be used within low and middle-income countries.
By eliminating the need to run five separate ELISA tests, Quansys provided an affordable, robust, and user-friendly test that can be used by organizations in low and middle-income countries to better understand micronutrional deficiencies in large populations.
