Human CD-26 Analyte Overview
Also known as CD26, Cluster of Differentiation 26, Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4, DPPIV), Adenosine Deaminase (AA) Complexing Protein 2
CD26, also known as Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) and adenosine deaminase complexing protein 2, is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein found in the membranes of most cell types and in a soluble form in blood plasma and many bodily fluids. CD26 plays numerous roles in the body, active in pathways associated with nutrition, metabolism, endocrine function, immune regulation, apoptosis, cell adhesion, and tumor development. In the immune system it functions as a T cell-activating molecule, serves as a cofactor for entry of HIV in CD4+ cells, and modulates adenosine deaminase, the deficiency of which causes severe combined immunodeficiency disease in humans. In the endocrine system it degrades peptide hormones such as glucagon. Serum levels of CD26 may have clinical significance in patients with cancer, liver and kidney diseases, and depression.
