Human EGF Analyte Overview
Also known as Epidermal growth factor
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) usually exists in a dormant, membrane-bound form but can be cleaved to form a soluble protein that can bind to the EGF receptor (EGFR). Soluble EGF binding to the EGFR results in promotion of proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal and epithelial cells. It has also been shown to stimulate fibroblasts in cell culture.
