Human IFNβ

Also known as IFN beta, interferon beta

Interferon β (IFNβ) is a cytokine member of the type I interferon family which play important roles in inflammation, T cell responses, and immunoregulation. Type I interferons can be produced by nearly every type of cell in mammals. Most often, they are produced in response to stimulation of pattern recognition receptors of microbial products but are also produced in response to detection of nucleic acids in the cytosol. IFNβ and all type I interferons signal through a heterodimeric receptor composed of IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 subunits. Stimulation through these receptors promotes induction of interferon stimulated genes (ISGs), many of which support an antiviral state within the cell.
