Human IFNλ (lambda) Analyte Overview

Human IFNλ

Also known as Interferon lambda 1, IFNλ1, IL-29

Interferon lambda 1 (IFNλ1) is a cytokine with anti-viral activity belonging to the type III interferon group. Its sequence is similar to IFNλ2 and IFNλ3. IFNλ1 is primarily produce by dendritic cells and various peripheral blood mononuclear cells in response to viral infection or other type I IFN agonists. Notably, type III IFNs tend to be less inflammatory and show slower kinetics than type I IFNs. Because the type III IFN receptors are expressed primarily on epithelial cells and certain immune cells they play a role in anti-viral activity at barrier sites such as the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive tracts.
