Mouse MDC Analyte Overview
Also known as Macrophage-Derived Chemokine, C-C Motif Chemokine 22, CCL22
Macrophage derived chemokine (MDC), also known as C-C motif chemokine 22 (CCL22), is a small cytokine with antimicrobial and chemoattractant properties. MDC is chemotactic for monocytes, natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and chronically activated T lymphocytes. It also shows mild attractive properties for primary active T lymphocytes. It is suspected to play a role in carrying T lymphocytes to the site of inflammation and may influence other aspects of T lymphocyte cell biology. MDC is expressed in macrophages, monocyte-derived dendritic cells, the thymus, lymph nodes, the appendix, and activated monocytes. Low levels are found in the lungs, spleen, and small intestine. In humans, high levels of CCL22, MDC’s homolog, have been identified in patients with several kinds of cancer, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma and breast cancer.
