NHP IL-2Rα
Also known as CD25, IL-2 receptor alpha chain
Type I transmembrane protein primarily expressed by activated T cells, activated B cells, and regulatory T cells. It can also be detected on myeloid precursors, oligodendrocytes, and resting memory T cells (in humans). IL-2Rα, IL-2Rβ, and the common gamma chain make up the high-affinity IL-2 receptor while a homodimer of the IL-2Rα chain makes up the low-affinity IL-2 receptor. It is important for detecting signal from IL-2 for growth signals, generating immunity, and maintaining immune tolerance.
IL-2Rα can also be found in a soluble form, resulting from extracellular proteolysis. Soluble IL-2Rα may play a role as a decoy receptor that reduces bioavailability of IL-2 or it may promote in trans activation by presenting IL-2 to dimeric IL-2 receptor expressing cells.
