Human PF-4 Analyte Overview
Also known as Platelet Factor 4, Chemokine Ligand 4, CXCL4
Platelet factor 4 (PF4), also known as chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 4 (CXCL4), is a small cytokine that plays a role in wound response and repair. When a blood clot is forming, PF4 is released from active platelets during aggregation and contributes to blood coagulation by regulating heparin-like molecules. It is also chemotactic to many other types of immune cells and inhibits the blood vessel formation, blood cell differentiation, and the activity of T cells. Dysregulation of PF4 and heparin or can lead to thrombosis. PF4 is critical during infection with malaria, as it controls the parasite by lysing its digestive vacuole.
