Human sFAS Analyte Overview
Also known as sFAS, First Apoptosis Signal Receptor, Apoptosis Antigen 1, APO-1 APT, Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 6, TNFRSF6
Soluble Fas (sFas) is a type I membrane protein that regulates apoptosis in the immune system. Fas receptor is expressed on the surface of activated lymphocytes and T cells and induces apoptosis when binding with Fas ligand. This process helps prevent an extended immune response and inflammation. sFas blocks this activity, preventing apoptosis. Elevated levels of sFas are implicated in a number of autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus, diseases of blood stem cells, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. High levels of sFas are correlated with poor prognosis in patients with melanoma and other cancers.
