Human Thyroglobulin Analyte Overview
Also known as Tg
Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a glycoprotein produced by the follicular cells of the thyroid. Tg is used entirely within the thyroid gland as a substrate for the synthesis of the hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Unused Tg is stored within the follicular colloid of the gland. Tg levels can serve as a tumor marker of papillary and follicular thyroid cancer. Elevated levels of anti-Tg antibodies may be indicative of Graves disease.
