Human YKL40 Analyte Overview
Also known as Chitinase 3-like 1
YKL40 is expressed by a range of cell types including articular chondrocytes, synovial cells, activated monocyte-derived macrophages, neutrophils, endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and some cancer cells. It binds to chitin and heparins and functions to enhance cell adhesion, proliferation, and tumor angiogenesis. Serum levels of YKL40 are elevated during inflammation and connective tissue remodeling.
