Human IL-7
Also known as Interleukin 7, lymphopoietin-1, pre-B-cell growth factor
Interleukin 7 (IL-7) is a cytokine and hematopoietic growth factor that is critical for the differentiation and maturation of many immune system blood cells. It is secreted by many organs, including bone marrow, the thymus, skin cells, neurons, intestine, and liver tissue. IL-7 is important for the development of lymphocyte cell types: B cells, T cells, and natural killer cells. It promotes the differentiation of multipotent blood stem cells into lymphoid progenitor cells, encourages further differentiate into specific lymphocytes, then supports their maturation and survival. Clinically, IL-7 dysregulation is associated with blood cancers and HIV infection. It is under investigation as a therapeutic agent for treating certain kinds of tumors, decreasing inflammation in HIV patients, and improving immune system recovery following stem cell transplants.
