Analyte Description

Monocyte-chemotactic protein 3 (MCP-3), also known as Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 7 (CCL7), is a small cytokine that is involved in inflammation responses. It is produced at the site of localized cell infection, where it attracts influences most kinds of leukocytes. MCP-3 is implicated in allergic responses, as it contributes to response to the presence of an allergen. MCP-3 may play a role in immunity-associated tumor rejection.  Elevated levels of MCP-3 have been found in patients with some types of cancer and those with inflammatory disease such as Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and ulcerative colitis. Unusual MCP-3 activity has been reported in the central nervous system of patients with multiple sclerosis, contributing to lesions. Low concentrations of the cytokine partially inhibit infection by HIV, while high levels support the virus’s replication.
