Human IFABP Analyte Overview

Human IFABP

Also known as intestinal-type fatty acid-binding protein, fatty acid-binding protein 2, FABP2

Intestinal-type fatty acid-binding protein (IFABP) belongs to the fatty acid-binding protein family. These proteins are thought to play roles in the uptake, metabolism, and transport of fatty acids. IFABP is an intracellular protein highly expressed in epithelial cells in the small and large intestines. Notably, it is released into circulation following mucosal damage and its concentration in plasma is associated with diseases of the small intestine including celiac disease and necrotizing enterocolitis.
